European Challenge Tour Stars come out in force to raise awareness of childhood and young adult cancer.
CLIC Sargent has been named as the official charity for this year’s prestigious Northern Ireland Open. The European Challenge Tour tournament tees off at Galgorm Castle Golf Club on Thursday 29 August and will finish on Sunday 1 September 2013.
Hosted by Russian Open champion and multiple European Tour winner Michael Hoey, the tournament will feature some of Europe’s top golfing talent including local players Simon Shaw and Alan Dunbar as well as Ryder Cup team member, Oliver Wilson.
As one of the most high profile events of the summer the Northern Ireland Open offers CLIC Sargent the ideal platform to raise awareness for its Northern Ireland Homes from Home Appeal. The Appeal aims to build two specialist houses close to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and the Belfast City Hospital, that can be used by families of children and young people that are undergoing a cancer treatment.
In Northern Ireland a family dealing with childhood cancer can face an average round trip of 95 miles, several times per week in order to receive a cancer treatment and spend an additional £360 per month. Costs will include travel, fuel, meals and accommodation. The CLIC Sargent ‘Homes from Home’ Appeal aims to reduce these costs.
Commenting on being named the Northern Ireland Open official charity, Teresa Sloan, Appeal Director, CLIC Sargent said, "We’re delighted to be associated with such a prestigious sporting event and one that will without question provide CLIC Sargent with an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of the Homes from Home Appeal and to encourage people to get behind a campaign that will benefit so many families from right across Northern Ireland."
"So far the Appeal has received tremendous support and work on the house at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children is on schedule to be opened in January 2014. We’re still continuing to fundraise for the second home and all the monies raised during the NI Open will go directly to the Northern Ireland Appeal.
Gary Henry General Manager, Galgorm Castle Golf Club said, "I am delighted that CLIC Sargent has been selected as the official charity of the Northern Ireland Open. CLIC Sargent has a great reputation for the support it offers children and young people living with cancer. The Homes from Home Appeal allows the Northern Ireland Open to leave a lasting legacy in Northern Ireland".
