A team of keen amateur sailors from the construction services company, John Henry Group, have taken part in the world's largest single yacht race, the Round the Island Race in aid of CLIC Sargent, raising over £1,800 for young cancer patients.
This year around 1,500 yachts and 16,000 sailors took part in the race around the Isle of Wight, including Olympian and race winner Ben Ainslie.
Whilst many competed purely for the exhilaration of the event, the John Henry Group team completed the race in aid of CLIC Sargent.
John Henry Group Contracts Manager, Dave Dunnett said: ‘We were in a class of 166 yachts, in glorious sunshine and strong winds... with some hard racing we finished 43rd in a time of eight hours and 20 minutes, which was pleasing for our first race.
"It was a great day and we managed to raise some funds for a great cause.”
The money that the team raised could pay for 10 grants to help the families of young cancer patients meet the sudden extra costs that a cancer diagnosis can bring.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Karen Roberts said: “Congratulations to the team for this wonderful achievement on their first attempt and for not only raising vital funds for CLIC Sargent but also raising awareness of the charity around the Isle of Wight.”
