Friends of Matthew Pinnock from Loughborough have completed the Three Peaks Challenge in his memory, raising over £5,000 for CLIC Sargent.
Aaon Butel, Alex Willmore, Anthony Brown, Danny Burgin, Iain Lednor, Jonny Lees and Marc Place had all been housemates of Matthew in Loughborough when he died of cancer last year.
They decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds in his memory and Matthew’s mum suggested CLIC Sargent as the charity had provided support for him and the whole family.
The team wrote: 'We are a small group of people who were lucky enough to live with Matthew in Loughborough… we banded together to do the Three Peaks Challenge in Matthew’s memory and raise some money for CLIC Sargent in the process.
'Whilst doing this challenge in Matthew’s name we shared our stories about Matthew, and aimed to raise as much money as possible for a charity that do wonderful work supporting not only cancer victims, but also their families.'
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Karen Roberts said: “Well they certainly achieved what they set out to do. Not only did they complete the challenge within the 24 hours but they have also so far raised over £5,000!”
The money that Matthew’s friends have raised could pay for a CLIC Sargent Nurse for one month whilst they coordinate clinical and non-clinical care for young cancer patients, to maximise the amount of time they can safely spend at home.
