Over the past 16 years, the prestigious invitational rugby 7s side, the CLIC Sargent Godfathers have raised an amazing £16,000 in support of children and young people with cancer, and their families.
Over £16,000 raised!
Over the years the team has seen some amazing successes competing on the UK rugby 7s circuit whilst raising funds and awareness for CLIC Sargent.
Garth Hannaford, one of the original founding members said: “We all understand how much cancer effects people’s lives and we all understand how much good work CLIC Sargent do, in providing support for the young people and their families in their times of need.”
The Godfathers boast a strong team of players including former England captain and 7s specialist, Pat Sanderson, fellow England captains Alex Sanderson and Matt Moore as well as Rugby league captains Kevin Ellis and Barrie John.
Looking forward, this year the team have already raised £1,000 for the charity in two fixtures and reached a final. The team will be playing in games throughout the summer, and to mark the longest day of the year will also be competing in the Solstice 7s to raise additional funds.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Kiren Fernandes said: “We are delighted to have the support of such a prominent Rugby 7s side. They have not only raised an incredible amount of money but also a huge amount of awareness for CLIC Sargent.”
