It was 25 years ago that Andrea was told her son, Bobby, was in remission from cancer.
Today, Bobby remains cancer free and brave Andrea chose to overcome her nerves and memories of Bobby’s treatment by being sponsored to cut off her very long hair to mark the occasion.
Andrea’s Big Buzz, at Elliot Reeve Hair Salon in Hunsbury, Northampton, was watched and encouraged by her best friend Nancy, who finished her own cancer treatment at the end of 2015.
All worth it
Andrea said: “I was very nervous about finally having my hair cut after growing it for so long, but once the first cut was made, I just got on with it!
“It was all worth it as I’ve raised about £208 so far for CLIC Sargent, with more still being collected at the salon.
“I was keen to support the charity because they helped us 25 years ago when my son, Bobby, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at just four years old.
“We wanted to mark Bobby being 25 years cancer free by fundraising to help support other children and young people like Bobby.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Lydia Buckmaster said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Andrea for becoming a LifeShaver for CLIC Sargent.
“I think her new style looks amazing! It’s such a wonderful way to mark the 25th year of Bobby being cancer free.”
