In 2007, at just nine weeks old, Tristan Bamford was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and had to undergo several months of treatment.
After years of annual check ups that involved scans and blood tests, Tristan has now been completely discharged. The brave youngster was given the Little Star award, which recognises the unique challenges faced by children diagnosed with cancer.
Mark, 34, said: “I have always wanted to do something extreme either on Tristan’s 10th year anniversary or when he got the all clear - which ever came sooner.”
Mark is taking part in the South Coast Challenge which is a 100K endurance event over 24 hours. The event is held in August and Tristan will complete the final 5K by his side to cross the finish line hand in hand.
Mark wanted to complete the challenge to thank CLIC Sargent for all the support provided to his family, including Tristan’s two younger brothers Mason and Dylan.
Mark explained: “CLIC Sargent was there from day one. Within a few hours of our arrival a woman called Gemma came over and said she would help with everything.
Whether it was someone to talk to or help out if the washing machine broke down, they were brilliant, so I wanted to do something to help.
“CLIC Sargent stood by our side and gave what ever support we needed.
"Tristan is doing so well after receiving the all clear. He is a delightful, brave and courageous young boy who makes his family very proud. We are excited to be sharing Father’s day together."
