The Mitchell family from Somerset has raised an incredible £20,000 for CLIC Sargent through a Support Me fund started for 12 year old Max who was diagnosed with cancer last year.
During this time, Max and his family have been supported by CLIC Sargent, the leading charity for children and young people with cancer in the UK.
Karen Mitchell, Max’s Mum said “CLIC Sargent has been an amazing support for Max and his family.
“To say shell-shocked would be pretty accurate. We had so many questions and concerns and we felt like we were in free fall in the dark.
"Suddenly the light was turned on and CLIC Sargent provided a parachute to help ease our descent.”
Fundraising for Max's Journey
Since his diagnosis in November 2012 Max, his family and friends have put on different fundraising events to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
December last year saw Max and his best friend Morgan take part in CLIC Sargent's Big Buzz event to raise over £1,000.
Family, friends and work colleagues have also taken part in a swims, runs and cycles and put on a variety of events including a silent auction and music gig that the Halsbury Plucknett put on to raise £3,000. Simon’s father's work colleagues at Agusta Westland helped to raise an amazing £2,672.51.
Max’s brother, Archie also took place in a Land's End to Crewkerene Cycle Ride which raised over £9,000 for CLIC Sargent.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manger, Kiren Fernandes said: “I would like to thank the Mitchell family for all of their fantastic fundraising! The astonishing amount of money they have raised could pay for an a family whose child is undergoing treatment at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children to stay at one of our Homes from Home in Bristol for up to two years.”
The Mitchell family is now taking a well-deserved break to enjoy the Christmas period with family and friends who have been so fantastic in supporting them through this very difficult time.
