The event

Nine jockeys sat side by side and facing backwards while they twisted a rope as quick as they could to get their horse over the finishing line.

Over the course of the evening, a total of 10 races took place and the overall winner was Hugh Colwell who very kindly donated the winner's prize to CLIC Sargent.

Hugh, owner of Stoneyfalls Stables Riding School, said: "My wife Rhonda and I were delighted with the amount of friends and family that came to support the event.  We did not expect to raise nearly £3,000!"

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Fiona McCann said: "This definitely was a night at the races with a twist. It was a great night and such fun to see everyone competing against each other and twisting their horse to win.

"I want to thank The Colewell family and everyone involved. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a very important month for children with cancer and we appreciate the support from the local community.

"Everything stops when you hear your child has cancer. Costs go up and often income goes down. That's why CLIC Sargent gives families a grant of £170, to help stop cancer costs spiralling. £2,800 will go a long way to financially helping families."

What could this money do?

Last year, we supported more than 280 children and young people with cancer, and their families, from Northern Ireland. We gave nearly 200 grants, to a value of over £39,000, to help families deal with the financial impact of cancer.

£2,800 could pay for 16 CLIC Sargent grants. Cancer can have a huge effect on a family's finances and a CLIC Sargent grant is offered to children and young people with cancer, and their families, as soon as they come into contact with us to help meet the sudden extra costs that a cancer diagnosis can bring.
