On 14 June 2013, teams taking part in the Santander Flame Relay finally reached the finish lined after a 1,300 mile journey to raise over £100,000 for CLIC Sargent, smashing their original target of £90,000.
The Santander Flame Relay got underway in early June, with 200 of the bank’s employees getting involved, seeking to raise funds for CLIC Sargent.
The journey stretched over 1,300 miles, and saw the two starting teams setting off simultaneously from the bank’s branches in Plymouth and Belfast on 4 June.
18 teams of employees travelled across the UK carrying a CLIC Sargent collection goblet using various modes of transport, including rickshaws, tandems, and a pedibus.
The route connected 19 of the bank’s UK sites – visiting many more branches along the way before finally arriving at the Santander head offices in Milton Keynes on 14 June.
Thank you to all of the Santander teams that took part in this amazing challenge to raise this incredible amount for CLIC Sargent.
Over the course of the year, the bank will support a host of fundraising activities, including two Total Wipeout events and treks to Mount Everest and Machu Picchu, as well as branch counter campaigns.
In total, the bank aims to raise £800,000, which will help fund the charity’s Homes from Home service for an entire year.
CLIC Sargent has eight Homes from Home located near seven principal treatment centres, where families can stay for free during their child’s cancer treatment.
