World Cancer Day 2018 – our best yet!

World Cancer Day 2018 was our best yet, with thousands of people banding together for young lives against cancer. We can’t thank everyone who got involved enough for making World Cancer Day 2018 such a success.

Daisy World Cancer Day 2018

Banding together

This year, young cancer patients Daisy, Mo and Tyler shared how it felt when the doctor said ‘it’s cancer’ and talked about the support they received from CLIC Sargent and those around them. Listen to their stories by watching our video.

Our wonderful supporters bought thousands of Bands Against Cancer, showing masses of support and raising vital funds for children and young people with cancer. They were sold in CLIC Sargent shops, Morrisons stores, J D Wetherspoon pubs and select H Samuel and Ernest Jones stores.

We’ve already had the fantastic news that Morrisons raised more than £325,000 during our World Cancer Day campaign, which included bands sold and fundraising on the day.

We also doubled the amount of bands sold in our charity shops from last year! Thank you to everyone who purchased a band and wore it in solidarity with young people on World Cancer Day.

National buzz

Our World Cancer Day campaign reached more people than ever before, creating a big buzz online.

YouTubers KSI, Marcus Butler and Callux all supported our campaign, as did EastEnders actors Danny Dyer and Tamsin Outhwaite, and we were even supported on Twitter by Kylie Minogue!

Young person Chloe, who CLIC Sargent supported following her diagnosis of osteosarcoma in her leg aged 17, took over the @NHS twitter account in the lead up to World Cancer Day, educating followers on life as a young cancer patient and the hidden costs involved.

Support from our partners

The buzz continued on the day, with bucket collections in Morrisons stores up and down the country, boosting awareness and raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for young lives against cancer. Our fantastic volunteers helped out with the fundraising at more than 120 Morrisons stores. This meant that shoppers nationwide saw how important it is to support young lives facing cancer.

Spreading the CLIC Sargent message even further, Sam, 12, who is being supported by CLIC Sargent since being diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January 2017, designed a stunning image for Morrisons' social media accounts to mark World Cancer Day. Take a look at Sam’s great work!

You’re the best

A massive thank you to everyone who shopped, shouted, shared and hashtagged World Cancer Day to success!
