CLIC Sargent is so lucky to have so many inspirational people that go the extra mile by taking on a challenge to raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families.
Here is an amazing story from Siwan Owen, the star challenger of the month, who is taking on the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 to raise funds for the charity that helped support her during her cancer treatment as a child. This is her story.
"CLIC Sargent was there for me and my family from day one. I had two amazing nurses, Eleri and Rhian, who provided support for me and my family.
"They took the stress of the diagnosis and treatment away from us and not only did they provide medical support but they organised trips and holidays for us as a family, which had a huge impact on the nightmare we were living. We were able to try and be the normal ‘Owens’.
Both Rhian and Eleri are my inspiration and made me want to be a nurse. I wouldn't be here without them!
"After two hip replacements (side effects of treatment) I'm ready to give something back. Your support can help children, young people and families who are living this nightmare.
"I'm proud to call myself a survivor and proud to be able to help others."
To raise sponsorship, Siwan has been using social media to let everyone know what she is doing and will also be doing a few talks to some groups regarding her experience of childhood cancer and fundraising.
Siwan has also got her friends involved with cake sales to help with fundraising.
