Tom Howard, 25, is due to leave for an epic cycle ride from London to Tokyo, a journey of around 9,000 miles and lasting six months, to raise money and awareness for CLIC Sargent after the charity supported his brother Harry.
Tom’s epic journey will see him travel through Germany, Russia and China before reaching his final destination of Tokyo in February 2018.
Tom, from Maidstone in Kent, decided to fundraise for CLIC Sargent during his mammoth challenge as a way of showing his gratitude to the charity that supported his family.
Wanted to give something back
He said: “Choosing CLIC Sargent as a charity to fundraise for was a no-brainer for me because of the outstanding support they provided to my brother Harry after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in November 2011.
"Whether it was the emotional and financial support they provided immediately after his diagnosis, or the numerous opportunities they gave him to meet people and participate in the work of the charity, Harry and our family benefitted enormously, and so I want to give something back.”
Harry is now one of CLIC Sargent's young trustees, helping to shape and influence the charity.
Tom will also be fundraising for another charity, Hope & Homes from Children.
A fantastic experience
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manager Alex Drury said: "We are so appreciative of Tom for choosing to fundraise for CLIC Sargent during what will be a fantastic experience for him.
"The money he raises will make such a difference to the children and young people we support, as well as their families."
Tom will be blogging through his journey, so to follow his progress visit his blog.
