Barber Gav decided to swap his afro for a completely bare head in order to raise money for young lives against cancer.
Gav’s sponsored head shave took part in The Pleasant Barbers in Islington, and was part of CLIC Sargent’s Big Buzz campaign.
Originally, Gav pledged to have a zero all over if he reached his £1,000 target. However, due to the overwhelming support he had from his customers, Gav received over double is target and decided to get it done properly with the cut-throat razor, resulting in a ‘to the bone’ shave!
Gav said: “I am thrilled to have raised the money I have for CLIC Sargent with my Big Buzz event. It was a great day and so many people turned up to support it, some following live on Facebook as well! I have been truly humbled by the response I have had, people have been so incredibly generous.
“I chose CLIC Sargent because when I was searching for a charity to support, I was so moved by how the charity was first established.
"As the father of two young children and one due in October, I couldn't imagine the pain CLIC founder Bob Woodward must have felt at the loss of his young son. To find the strength through this grief to found something so amazing is truly inspiring to us all.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manager Charlie Straker said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Gav and The Pleasant Barbers for organising such a wonderful event and joining the ‘life-shaver’ team.
“Every day 11 children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer.
"Many will lose their hair during treatment and the Big Buzz campaign gives you the chance to show support for them by shaving your head and raising money for CLIC Sargent.”
