Over the ten years to September 2012, the partnership raised £6m through monthly fundraising events, collections and staff taking part in runs and challenges for CLIC Sargent.
Staff and customers of J D Wetherspoon have made tremendous efforts to keep the money flowing in this year.
More than half of the 870 pubs from around the country submitted a team and pulled on their football boots for a company-wide tournament which raised over £380,000 as part of Kick! for CLIC Sargent.
By being part of Child Cancer Awareness Month in December 2012, pubs raised £290,000 through taking part in the Big Bucket Collection, holding events and stocking pin badges.
In January 2013 the first national darts championship brought in more than £27,000 and last month eight staff ran the London Marathon collectively raising over £10,000.
“This is a towering achievement by J D Wetherspoon and it means everything to the children and young people and their families whom we look after,” said CLIC Sargent Chief Executive Lorraine Clifton.
“Every penny raised means we can help more children and young people and their families coping with cancer. That is priceless.”
“Wetherspoon’s long standing support has meant we have been able to continue our vital work, providing practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people with cancer, and their families. At present we only reach two out of three children and young people with cancer, but the company’s continuous commitment until 2015 will help us move closer to closing that gap.”
Tim Martin, founder and chairman highlighted that: ”Wetherspoon is proud to be associated with such a wonderful charity as CLIC Sargent. We are delighted that our fundraising figure now stands at £7 million. Our customers and staff have supported CLIC Sargent for many years and we look forward to raising even more money in the future.”
