Broad Oak Community Primary School has continued its fundraising for CLIC Sargent by recently taking part in a sponsored spelling event.
Pupil Alex, seven, was diagnosed last year with Pre B Lymphoblastic Lymphoma - a rare form of blood cancer.
Since then Alex’s classmates, friends, teachers and the local community have been tirelessly fundraising for CLIC Sargent, who is supporting young Alex and his family, by participating in lots of fundraising from bucket collections to after school discos.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Jayne Moran was invited to deliver an informative assembly about the work of CLIC Sargent and how it has been supporting Alex and his family.
This resulted in the school’s latest fundraising events, a 'Practice-a-thon Spelling' for the junior children, who were given the task of asking friends and family to sponsor them to learn 10 spellings, whilst the younger pupils took part in a ‘coin challenge'.
The children worked hard and raised a ‘spellbinding’ £2,500!
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Jayne Moran said: "The Broad Oak family have been a pleasure to work with.
"Both headteacher Mrs Hignett and I are so proud that they have worked so hard to show support towards Alex and his family.
"Their total fundraising is now a fantastic £5,000 which is just amazing!"
