Marks & Spencer Newtownabbey branch raises £17,696

Aidan's parents, Angela and Bill Duffy started the Especially for You Fund in memory of their son who died of cancer in September 2011.

Each year the Marks & Spencer Newtownabbey branch chooses a charity to raise money for. During 2012 they decided to support the Aidan Duffy Especially for You Fund in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Staff members came up with all sorts of creative ways to raise money. They held bag packs in the store, organised sponsored weigh in events, participated in the Belfast Marathon and took part in a sponsored cycle ride from Belfast to Dublin. Staff also organised a number of cake sales and pub quizzes. All sponsorship money raised was then matched by Marks & Spencer.

Angela and Bill, collected the cheque from the Newtownabbey branch and were accompanied by CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Christine McClune.

Christine said: "We are so grateful to all the staff at Marks & Spencer Newtownabbey for choosing to fundraise for CLIC Sargent and the Aidan Duffy Especially For You Fund. It is inspiring to see how much time and effort the store put in to raising money for us.

“The money raised is going to our Homes from Home Appeal which will see two new homes built within walking distance of both hospitals in Belfast where children and young people being treated for cancer and their families can stay free of charge.”
