The Forest of Dean Festival of Brass was held in Lydney where a number of training bands entertained the audience with a variety of music to raise money for children and young people with cancer.
Supported by Gloucestershire Brass Band Association (GBBA), Kevin and Kerry Ford of Lydney Training Band successfully organised the event in just three weeks.
The supportive audience were treated to a variety of music in a variety of styles to keep them thoroughly entertained. There was some super playing by everyone with some very young, but talented soloists, on view.
The bands that took part were Lydney Training and Starter Bands, Lydbrook Training, City of Bristol Learners and West Mercia Police Youth.
Support for talented musicians
Mentor Nigel Seaman gave encouragement and feedback to each of the young bands and conductors alike. He was exactly what was required, a friendly face with some very sound advice for the players, which all helped add to a relaxed and enjoyable day of music.
Nigel said: "What a marvellous time I had at today's festival! I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. A lovely atmosphere in the hall and a smashing, relaxed feeling to the whole thing.
“I hope there will be a second festival in the future. The exercise needs to be repeated that's for certain!”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Caroline Marshall said: “Many thanks to Kevin and Kerry for organising this fabulous event at the last minute.
"It is wonderful that they achieved such a great opportunity for young musicians and supported CLIC Sargent at the same time.”
