Falcons Badminton team raise £1,000 after completing 12 hour badminton match

Badminton match marathon success

Falcons Badminton members Tom Hyam, Oliver Wintle, Elliot Bailey and David Compton all took part in the marathon 12 hour badminton match with a final score of 1589 to 1512!

Oliver Powell took part in an individual sponsored rally event achieving the longest rally of 552.

The event was well supported with players from Leisure at Cheltenham and Balcarras School and by midday the target of £500 had already been achieved. By early evening, the total had reached just under £900 when news arrived that Badminton Gloucestershire County wished to contribute £100 taking the total raised for CLIC Sargent close to £1,000!

By the end of day, the then exhausted organisers and marathon match players received the news that their hard work had achieved the £1,000 mark thanks to families and friends making additional contributions.

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Ceris Bradley said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the event and helped to organise this event - what a fantastic total!

"This will go a long way in helping us support children and young people with cancer in Gloucestershire, and their families.”

The organisers would like to thank Bournside Sports Centre for the free use of facilities,  and also express their gratitude for the support provided from Solomon Griffith and all those who took part and contributed towards the appeal.
