Despite being seriously ill, Katie Thorburn, 16, had been determined to organise a star-studded ball to raise vital funds for CLIC Sargent.
An evening of glitz and glamour
Katie died of cancer just weeks before the event; however, the ball went ahead in recognition of her wishes, with her family calling for it to be a celebration of her life.
With 450 guests attending, Katie’s Ball was an amazing extravaganza of glitz and glamour and a fantastic evening was had by all.
The energy from the band, The Weekend Millionaires was infectious and the dance floor was full all night long. The band refused to charge on the night therefore ensuring all money raised on the night went directly to CLIC Sargent.
Table magician Danny Jewell kept guests guessing with his range of magic tricks and Paul Hazelby, MC, did a great job of running the auction and keeping control of all the guests!
Katie’s friends and family have said: "The night was more successful than we had dared to believe."
Supporters can also still donate to Katie's Ball via JustGiving. Katie's online fundraising page.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Vicki Moore who was in attendance along with a team of volunteers, said: “The whole evening was thoroughly enjoyable and a pleasure to be at.
"Katie's dedication to fundraising during her illness was an inspiration. To raise such a substantial amount of money is an incredible achievment, and every penny of the money raised from the ball will be used to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer."
