Francesca's ball raises over £3,800

Teenage cancer survivor, Francesca Wheatley has held a fundraising ball at the Mytton Hall Golf Complex, Lancashire, in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Francesca's ball raises over £3,800

Francesca's family was supported by the charity after she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2010.

Through CLIC Sargent she met three of her best friends Hayley, Ryan and Kim. Both Ryan and Kim died of cancer in 2012 and Hayley in 2013. Francesca organised the fundraising ball in honour of her three ‘guardian angels’.

She said: “The pain felt almost unbearable but thanks to CLIC Sargent I had a strong support network to get me through the rough patch and look into the future.

“I’m now even more determined to raise lots of money for CLIC Sargent, as without this charity I would never have had the pleasure of meeting my three best friends”.

Francesca's ball was a huge success, raising nearly £2,000 for CLIC Sargent, an amount which Santander has matched, bringing the total to over £3,800.

Guests were treated to a three course meal with live entertainment provided by talented musician Imogen Storey.

The event was also attended by Coronation Street star Alexander Bain (Simon Barlow) who drew the raffle. Prizes included iPad minis, and tickets to see John Bishop, and vouchers which had been kindly donated by local businesses.

During the evening, candles were lit in memory of Francesca’s friends.

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Vicki Moore said: “We really appreciate all of the support that Francesca has shown for CLIC Sargent.

"She is incredibly inspirational and the money she has raised will help us continue supporting young people like herself and her three best friends.”
