The Weston-super-Mare HSBC branch has raised £640 by conquering a Cheddar Gorge Abseil in aid of CLIC Sargent.

The team tested their bravery by dropping 25 metres down Cheddar Gorge cliff face. Although the team enjoyed the challenge they were glad when their feet hit the bottom. It took each participant approximately five minutes to complete the challenge.

The team aimed to raise £100 in aid of CLIC Sargent, but have smashed their target, thanks to the generosity of their friends, family and their employer’s matched funding scheme.

Big step

Amy Harris, event organiser and HSBC employee, said: “A few of the team who did it had big fears of heights and wanted to beat their fears whilst raising money for the charity - so it was a big step for them.

“The main reason we picked CLIC Sargent was to sponsor children with cancer, in memory of a team member’s young niece who sadly died a couple of years ago.

“It feels amazing that we have raised the money that will be going to a great cause!”

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Tori Williams said: “Amy and the team have completed a fantastic feat in support of CLIC Sargent.

“We really appreciate the courage that has gone into raising the pounds – every penny raised will help provide vital support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.”
