The Virgin Money London Marathon is a fantastic, world class event. Cheering crowds, thousands in fancy dress and world record attempts mean that the atmosphere on race day is unrivalled.
This year 37,000 people took to the streets of London to run through the capital and beyond, covering 26.2 miles. 400 of these put on their pink vests (and headbands) to run as part of Team CLIC Sargent.
On race day our runners got to the start line, and then each at their own pace – to the finish line! They were helped along by the loud cheers of our official cheering points along the route.
First up, mile 12 where friends, family and volunteers cheered them all on as they ran over the iconic Tower Bridge. It was here that one of our favourite race day selfies was taken – good work Liam Rutter!
Next up at mile 15 was Millwall Fire Station and then at mile 23 our corporate partners, J D Wetherspoon, hosted a cheer point outside the Liberty Bounds pub.
It was at mile 23 that one CLIC Sargent runner decided to pop the question to his partner who was cheering him on, and it was all caught on camera – congratulations Stuart and Emma.
The last mile can be tough but we hope that our loud cheers and air horns at mile 25 gave all our wonderful runners that last push they needed to get them to the finish line. Go Team CLIC Sargent go!
Once they had crossed that finish line our runners were invited to attend our post race reception where they were applauded like VIPs as they entered the building.
The reception party was filled with hundreds of people, runners and family members, a children’s entertainer, DJ and a very popular massage team.
Runners were welcomed in and had a well deserved meal and massage, and the odd glass of bubbly. It was an absolutely fantastic atmosphere and slightly overwhelming for many. Overall an emotional but amazing day!
Thank you so much to all our 2015 London Marathon runners and congratulations again on your amazing achievement.
We are so grateful that you chose to take on this challenge and be part of Team CLIC Sargent.
We are hoping to raise an incredible £760,000 from this year’s event which will be able to do so much to help CLIC Sargent continue to support young cancer patients and their families.
