Supermarket Lidl has pledged to raise £1million in a new three-year partnership with CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people.
It follows a successful 15-month partnership which saw Lidl more than double its original target to raise a fantastic £358,900.
Staff took on a range of fundraising activities while other highlights included donations from Lidl on sales of mini-muffins in March, raising £20,000 and a Christmas mini-stollen bites campaign which raised £12,000.
Over the next three years there will be a series of fundraising events, from individual staff challenges to donations from sales of goods, as the partnership strives to reach the £1million target.
Lidl UK also sponsors CLIC Sargent’s schools fundraising programme, allowing the charity to supply fundraising materials and support to schools at no net cost.
Lorraine Clifton, CLIC Sargent Chief Executive, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Lidl for another three years.
“Last year Lidl staff really rose to the challenge to support CLIC Sargent, taking on runs, challenges and skydives to raise funds. The original target was £150,000 but through determination and hard work Lidl ended up raising an incredible £358,900.
“We are delighted at the success so far and are very much looking forward to the next three years.”
Ronny Gottschlich, Managing Director of Lidl UK, said: “CLIC Sargent is a wonderful charity which provides vital support for families coping with cancer.
“We’ve really enjoyed working with CLIC Sargent over the last 18 months and our staff have really engaged with the partnership, smashing the original fundraising target.
“We’re excited to see the partnership grow over the next three years as we push towards our £1 million target.”
Money raised will help to pay for a variety of services to help children and young people with cancer.
- £28 could pay for an hour of a CLIC Sargent nurse’s time, so they can coordinate clinical and non-clinical care for children with cancer
- £33 would pay for a family to stay overnight in one of CLIC Sargent’s eight Home from Homes
- £170 could pay for a CLIC Sargent grant to help meet the sudden extra costs that a cancer diagnosis can bring.
