Response to the APPG on Cancer report

CLIC Sargent has welcomed the publication of a report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer’s (APPGC) which was launched at the Britain Against Cancer Conference in London today.

The report looks into the progress made since the publication of Achieving World-Class Cancer Outcomes: A Strategy for England 2015-2020 (the England Cancer Strategy). The strategy set out a vision for the care cancer patients should receive from the NHS.

In response to the APPG on Cancer report into the Cancer Strategy, CLIC Sargent Chief Executive Kate Lee said: “We welcome the report from the APPG on Cancer today and share its recognition of progress against some aspects of the Cancer Strategy.

"We particularly welcome progress in asking children about their experiences and the review of services for children and young people with cancer.

"However, CLIC Sargent remains concerned regarding progress on some key areas of the Cancer Strategy for children and young people with cancer, namely involving children and young people in research and improving children and young people’s experiences of diagnosis.

"We also share the APPG’s concerns in ensuring there is access to robust data on cancer outcomes, clear accountability for delivery of the Cancer Strategy and ensuring that the Cancer Patient Experience Survey continues. These areas are all crucial in creating a better experience for children and young people with cancer, as well as other cancer patients in England.

"I will continue to work with the Independent National Cancer Advisory Group, and CLIC Sargent will continue to work with the APPG on Cancer, NHS England, health professionals and charity partners across the country, to limit the damage that cancer causes to young lives and ensure the Cancer Strategy delivers for children and young people with cancer and their families.”
