Pupils at Bedonwell Junior School have held a combined Hero Day and Memorial Service in memory of one of their teachers and to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
Bedonwell Junior School raises £706.05
Last summer, Bedonwell Junior School sadly lost a beloved teacher, Mrs Whyte, who died of cancer.
In Mrs Whyte’s memory, the school community decided to raise funds for CLIC Sargent and help support children and young people with cancer by dressing as heroes for the day.
The school held a special assembly in memory of Mrs Whyte and some of her family also attended. There were lots of heroes at the school that day, including Superman, a nurse, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Batman and even Harry Styles made an appearance!
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Elizabeth Charing said: “I was invited to attend Bedonwell Junior School’s assembly and thankfully didn’t get lost as mini Batwoman showed me the way!
"The assembly was very moving and a great tribute to Mrs Whyte. Thank you to everyone at Bedonwell Junior School for raising a fantastic £706.85 in support of CLIC Sargent and in memory of their much-loved Mrs Whyte.”
After the assembly everyone gathered in the playground and Mrs Whyte’s former pupils each released a balloon in her memory.
Mrs Catlow from Bedonwell Junior School said: “It was a fun yet emotional day, a perfect way to remember one of our very own heroes. Her whole life was dedicated to working with children and we thought it an ideal way to remember her.”
