January sees many of us get rid of the Christmas clutter to prepare for the New Year. For Somerset couple Lynn and Nick Carter this ethos is something they apply to every aspect of their lives.
Lynn and Nick set up Chicy Little Monkeys, a website that stocks second hand high end labels for young fashionistas, also donating a number of fantastic items to CLIC Sargent's charity shops.
Lynn said: “We’re not just talking about supermarket outfits and cheap brands. These ladies are buying high end labels such as Jottum, Monnalisa and Suzanne Ermann, as well as the more well-known designers including Dolce and Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Fendi.
“Some of these outfits never even make it out of the wardrobe. Half of parents have bought clothes for their children that have never been worn, while two thirds have splashed out on items which have only been worn once!”
As part of this process there are a number of great items that don’t quite make the cut. Lynn's reuse philosophy ensures that not one item is wasted so donates the goods to local CLIC Sargent charity shop. Each bag of donated items can raise approximately £30 – £50 and will help support CLIC Sargent support children and young people with cancer.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Kiren Fernandes, said: “Finding everyday ways for individuals and companies to support us are important and the simple act of donating your unwanted goods could have a real impact on the families that we support.
"Just one bag of unwanted goods could pay for a meal for a family staying at CLIC Sargent’s holiday home, while three bags of clothing could pay for a support group for sibling on children on treatment.”
