Super fit Bill Crawshaw is warming up for his Ironman challenge, having recently completed his second triathlon in the space of a month, all part of his training programme for the Bolton Ironman Challenge on 17 July in aid of CLIC Sargent.
Bill works at Manchester Airport and was the first member of staff to embark on fundraising following the announcement that CLIC Sargent is the chosen charity for the airport.
Signing up for the Ironman challenge at the start of the year, acting duty manager Bill began a full programme of training, including the Wilmslow Sprint Triathlon, a static ‘turbo bike ride’ at the airport as well as taking part in a Runway Run despite getting over a chest infection.
Speaking of his second completed triathlon Bill said: “It was a fantastic day in Ellesmere, couldn’t have asked for better weather and the lake was a toasty 16 degrees.
“This was a standard or Olympic distance race, a 1.5K lake swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run.”
Bill completed this challenge, which was also a European Champion qualifying event, in a time of 2:27.09 which he was pleased with and will find out soon if this is enough to qualify for the championships.
The final training session, the Chester Triathlon, is on 12 June at Grosvenor Park Chester.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Maria Healy said: “Bill is fantastic, he wanted to meet up and learn more about the charity and as soon as he knew more about what we do and how we support children and young people there has literally been no stopping him.
“He is much respected on Terminal three and has great support from his team who are planning to take a minibus to the Bolton event complete with barbecue and CLIC Sargent banner to cheer him on.
“It’s thanks to people like Bill that CLIC Sargent can support more children and young people in the Manchester area.”
