CLIC Sargent’s fundraising campaign across nine local radio stations throughout the UK got underway yesterday. The goal is to raise at least £250,000 from the appeal, which is being run in partnership with Cash for Kids, the stations’ umbrella charity which has committed to raising funds during their annual Cash for Kids Day to support the work of CLIC Sargent.
CLIC Sargent has launched an advertising campaign to promote the appeal in the run up to Cash for Kids Day on Friday 26 April. Some stations started broadcasting adverts, many of which have been voiced by CLIC Sargent families and staff, from Monday 1 April. Most are due to start airing the adverts on Monday 8 April. On the appeal day each station will turn over the whole day’s programming to CLIC Sargent, broadcasting live and pre-recorded interviews with local children, young people and their families, as well as local staff working in services and fundraising.
Cash for Kids Managing Director Sally Aitchison said: “We have teamed up with CLIC Sargent because they are the UK’s leading provider of clinical, practical and emotional support for young cancer patients and their families. Childhood cancer is a devastating experience. Everyday family life is turned upside down. Children and young people may miss out on school, college or employment, and families are separated for long periods of time and often have to travel long distances for treatment, which can last for three years. CLIC Sargent helps families like these. Together, we are committed to raising funds to help these young people and their families in the local areas in which we operate.”
CLIC Sargent CEO Lorraine Clifton said: “Lack of funding means we can only give two out of three children and young people, and their families, all the support they need. Every donation we receive, however small, will help us support young cancer patients in the areas where these stations broadcast. So we’re really pleased to be the beneficiary of this year’s Cash for Kids Day – and very grateful for all the support and dedication of station staff in delivering this appeal.”
