One employee's challenge to run 1,000 miles for young cancer patients, inspired Mackenzie Construction in Thornliebank to organise its own fundraising 10K race.
David Hepburn, contracts manager at Mackenzie Construction, is tackling the 1,000 miles challenge and he nominated CLIC Sargent as the beneficiary charity of the 10K run event, which raised a bumper £2,500.
David said: "After running the London Marathon and Edinburgh Marathon in 2016 I want to keep fundraising for CLIC Sargent. The people I met in London in 2016 along with some of their happy and heart-breaking stories have inspired me to continue fundraising for such a fabulous charity.
"I am lucky enough to have been awarded a charity place at the London marathon in April 2017.
"Mackenzie Construction is a very charitable company. I nominated CLIC Sargent this year as I was already fundraising for them with my runs and wanted to encourage others to do so too. We also wanted to support a children's charity."
CLIC Sargent Running Events Manager Lewis Hay said: "We’re delighted David has signed up to take part in another London Marathon and we can’t wait to cheer him on to the finish line on the day. The commitment David has made to fundraising for CLIC Sargent has been amazing and we can't thank him enough for his efforts. To date he has raised over £4,800 for young cancer patients.
"Running events like the London Marathon are a great way for people to challenge them while making a huge difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer, and their families. CLIC Sargent provides support, including social workers, nurses and free accommodation near hospitals to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer."
