Lady Captain of Chippenham Golf Club, Shirley Hourigan, has completed a year of fundraising and donated £1,100 to help CLIC Sargent support young cancer patients.
With the support of her club, Shirley has organised fundraisers throughout the year alongside her role as Lady Captain.
This wonderful effort meant Shirley raised over £2,000 – which was split evenly between her two chosen charities, one of which was CLIC Sargent.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager James McDonald was invited to Lady Captain’s Day for the cheque presentation and to share the work of the charity with members of the club.
James said: “It is a real honour to accept this donation of behalf of the charity. Every day in the UK 10 children and young people are given the devastating news that they have cancer.
"With this donation we can help even more families who are facing a cancer diagnosis move on together.
“Thank you Shirley and every member of the club for supporting CLIC Sargent over the last year.”
Special guests for the evening were Bob Woodward OBE and his wife Judy, who founded CLIC in 1976. The charities CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Children) and Sargent Cancer Care for Children merged in 2005 to form CLIC Sargent.
