David Clark, president of the South Woodham Ferrers Lions Club, very kindly chose CLIC Sargent to be one of the beneficiaries of the club's fundraising throughout his year of office.
A year later the club has raised a fantastic £10,000, to be split equally between CLIC Sargent and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
How did the club do it?
The club's main fundraising event was a sponsored swim, and thanks to the Waves Swimming School, children as young as three took part as well as adults who were all sponsored, and had a great time.
As well as the sponsored swim, the club organised a barn dance and holds a tea dance once a month, which is very well attended and includes unlimited tea and cake for all attendees!
What could this money do?
Last year CLIC Sargent supported more than 260 families in the county of Essex alone, with many of these families having to travel long distances to receive treatment.
£5,000 could pay for four families to stay at one of our Homes from Home for a month, ensuring they are close to their child during treatment.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Karen Roberts said: "This is a fantastic amount to have raised.
"I heard all about the tea dances at the recent Black and White Ball when the charities were presented with cheques, and they sound like great fun.
The Lions Club certainly knows how to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising - we are extremely grateful for its donation.
