The CLIC Sargent Services Team is not only dedicated to working with children and young people with cancer and their families but they are also superb fundraisers for the cause.
Since 2013, the Services team in Newcastle has held a stall and tombola three times a year to support CLIC Sargent for World Cancer Day, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and at Christmas time, raising about £1,000 at each event.
Their continuous support and fundraising efforts have meant that each year their total has increased. At their most recent fundraiser in December, the Services team also raised money on the wards by selling Christmas pin badges and decorations in the lead up to the stall.
Special thanks should go to the CLIC Sargent Services team, especially Maureen Cannell, social work assistant and Dot Thompson, administrator, as well as all those who kindly donated prizes, including Morrisons and families on the ward.
Maureen and Dot enjoy running tombolas to help support children and young people with cancer and their families. It gives them a good opportunity to see some of the families in a less formal setting and helps to raise awareness of the charity in the hospital.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manager Dee Tyler said: “I am so lucky to have such a supportive team.
"The stalls are a joint effort but they wouldn’t happen without the contacts and man power of two lovely ladies in particular, Maureen and Dot. I am so grateful to them.”
The team are also looking at holding an additional Easter fundraiser including a tombola which will be on Tuesday 27 March at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
How you can get involved
The team are always on the lookout for more prizes, so if anyone lives nearby and has anything they’d like to donate that would be suitable for a tombola, such as new, unwanted gifts like bath gift sets, confectionary, wine and novelties please contact Dee on 07767 621 705 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
