Bus driver Ken Ramsay, from South Shields bus depot, dressed as Santa to bring festive cheer to passengers while raising funds for his chosen charity, CLIC Sargent.
The Stagecoach South Shields team also handed out Stagecoach Christmas-themed goodies to passengers.
Of course, Stagecoach's driving Santa was reliant on the generosity of it's customers to raise money and he is never disappointed. Year after year, the people of South Shields continue to donate impressive amounts to the collections.
Kenny’s incredibly generous passengers donated £1,688 on his bus and donated a further £155 on his JustGiving page. Meanwhile Stagecoach itself contributed £312, bringing the total raised to a fantastic £2,155.
All of the money raised was in memory of nine-year-old Jack Leggett from South Tyneside who sadly died in December 2013.
Kenny has been a driver for 43 years and has donned a Santa suit for the past six years supporting CLIC Sargent twice, and also donned a wig for its Wig Wednesday event.
He said: “Every year the response from the public is really positive, it’s fantastic.
“Everyone loves Santa Claus and I think it has become a part of the build up to Christmas in the community.
“It’s just good fun and certainly gives a great atmosphere on the buses.
“We collected funds for CLIC Sargent as it’s on our doorstep and is popular with the team, after a friend and former employee at the depot lost his grandson to cancer and CLIC Sargent was of great support.”
Kenny added: “I really want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us, including Stagecoach and Lee Hughes from the Red Hackle pub, as it is all of their generosity which makes the difference.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Dee Tyler said: “The CLIC Sargent Team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary do an amazing job of supporting families like the Leggett’s through difficult times - but they couldn’t do it without the support of our amazing fundraisers.
"This isn’t the first time Kenny or the people of South Shields have chosen to support us, in fact we get a lot of support in the area and for that we are truly thankful.
“We would like to thank Kenny and Stagecoach for making this happen and for raising such a fantastic sum of money for us.”
Across the six Stagecoach North East depots, staff raised an impressive £16,000 for various charities over the festive period, which included a donation for each depot from Stagecoach North East.
