Lidl supermarket staff and customers hailed ‘real life superheroes’ for children and young people with cancer

Lidl staff and customers across the South West have raised over £13,000 for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer support charity for children, young people, and their families.

For one week in November, staff at 63 Lidl stores across the region, which spans from Bristol to Weymouth, right down to Penzance, swapped their usual uniforms for fancy dress superhero outfits and asked customers to donate their spare change for a good cause.

The team at Lidl’s Hayle store in Cornwall raised an incredible £1,300 through their own fundraising efforts during Superhero Week.

Store Manager Simon Cave presented a cheque for the full amount raised to Jordan Anderton, CLIC Sargent’s Fundraising Manager for Cornwall and West Devon, at an event last week.

Jordan hailed the whole Lidl South West team ‘real life superheroes’ for children and young people with cancer.

He said:  “On behalf of the children and young people that we support we’d like to say a huge thank you!

“Our CLIC Sargent Social Workers and Nurses are there for children, young people, and their families through every step of cancer treatment. But their work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing fundraisers.

“The Lidl staff are real life superheroes for children and young people with cancer, and the money they’ve raised will make a massive difference.”

Since 2014, Lidl employees and customers across the UK have raised more than £700,000 to support children and young people, and their families, whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer.

CLIC Sargent provides practical, emotional, clinical, and financial support from diagnosis onwards for children and young people with cancer, and their families across the UK.

Philip Stacey, Lidl UK Sales Organisations Project Consultant, said: “You cannot help but be touched by the stories of the children and young people that CLIC Sargent works with, and we’re all incredibly proud that we managed to raise £13,000 for this fantastic charity!

“Our customers were so generous and we really value their support. Some of them were a little surprised to see Wonder Woman in the aisles that week, and Batman and Spiderman on the checkouts. But their reaction was brilliant and we’ll definitely do it again!”
