As part of the fundraising partnership between Manchester Airport Group (MAG) and CLIC Sargent, East Midlands Airport is hosting both a 10K running event for individuals and teams, and a 2K family run around its site.
Entry fees start at just £8 for the 2K run and £18 for the 10K run. Runners are encouraged to raise sponsorship for children and young people with cancer. To find out more about the event and to register please visit the Huubevents official website.
Something for everyone
The 10K individual and team challenge runners will set off around the airport perimeter including the airport fire station, normally only seen by staff members.
The 2K individual and family runners will start outside the terminal building.
Runners will receive a finisher’s medal and prizes will be awarded for the fastest individual and fastest team, as well as the team that raises the most money.
This winter full-length runway repairs mean that the airport will be shut every weekend for six weeks, offering a unique opportunity for this running event to happen.
Andy Cliffe, managing director at East Midlands Airport, said: “The closure of the airport for runway maintenance only happens every 15 to 20 years.
"It therefore gave us the opportunity to host a family running event, which is ideal for people of all ages and abilities, as part of our work to support our chosen charity CLIC Sargent.”
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Anna Finnegan said: “Last year CLIC Sargent supported over 600 families in the East Midlands.
“This is such a fantastic opportunity for people from the Midlands to get involved with, and we are thrilled that all participants will be encouraged to raise money for children and young people with cancer.
"I urge people to sign up and take part in this unique experience and raise money to change what it means to be diagnosed with cancer when you are young.”
