Newquay Harbour hosted a New Year's Day Dip in aid of CLIC Sargent as over 77 brave dippers took to the water with lots of well wishes from the crowd.
The annual event was organised by members of the Newquay CLIC Sargent Fundraising Group who were looking for something different to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
The event attracted many participants, with ages ranging from six -70 years, and a great and supportive crowd of onlookers.
Dippers entered the water at noon, with some even wearing fancy dress. They paddled and swam until the cold water drove them back to the beach whilst the crowd clapped and cheered as the last participant came out.
It is expected the total raised for CLIC Sargent will be in excess of £1,400. Many dippers have been sponsored by family and friends and spectators were most generous with their donations too.
Event organisers Hannah Eustice and Jos and Andy Cole would like to thank the many helpers who enabled the event to go ahead so smoothly including, Adam the lifeguard, Newquay Harbour, the staff at the Rowing Club for use of their facilities, our helpers on the day and to all who supported this annual fun event.
Special thanks to Maggie from thisisnewquay, who not only took part again this year but provided us with the most brilliant photographic record of the event.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, Georgina Reed, said: “Hannah, Jos and Andy do a fantastic job of organising the dip each year and have an excellent team to help them.
"The New Year’s Day Dip for CLIC is one of many events the Newquay CLIC Sargent Voluntary Fundraising Group organises. The money raised from this year’s Dip will enable them to continue making an amazing difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer.”
