 Malin to Mizen cycle

What a difference a week makes! A fantastic group of 20 cyclists completed the Ultimate Irish Cycle in May and raised almost £60,000 for the Northern Ireland Homes from Home Appeal.

The team started at Irelands most Northerly point, Malin Head on one of the wettest days we've had this year. Seven days and 426.4 miles later the group crossed the finish line in glorious sunshine at Mizen Head in the south. The group cycled for 34 hours 44 minutes and 37 seconds, travelled 426.4 miles, used 12,400 calories and climbed 5,696m of Irish hills!

Heather McCarroll from Castlerock and Maggie Crawford from Ballymoney joined a fantastic group of 21 cyclists who have raised over £60,000 for the charity.

Heather said: "I have previously taken part in a number of different fundraising challenges and when I saw CLIC Sargent's Malin to Mizen challenge I really wanted to do something to help local children with cancer.

"It was a great challenge and all the training over the cold and wet winter months was well worth the effort. I have been blown away by the generosity of my friends and family who have helped us raise such a fantastic amount. It really was the experience of a lifetime and I met some fantastic people on the trip, I would highly recommend anyone who has ever thought of doing a challenge to sign up, you won't regret it!"

Maggie said: "I am delighted to have been part of this fantastic event. Knowing that the money we raised will make a huge difference to the families that CLIC Sargent support made all the fundraising and training so worthwhile.

"We started the cycle on a day of incessant rain but the weather quickly improved and with tail winds for most of the journey, we finished at Mizzen Head in glorious sunshine. This was a tough challenge but we had a fantastic group taking part and the entertainment in the evenings made up for the challenging distance and terrain during the day."
