Company launches year of fundraising with group head shave

Adopstar (main picture, above), an advertising sales agency from Cullompton in Devon, held a group shave at their office with nine brave volunteers shaving their heads to raise over £1,000 for CLIC Sargent.

The Big Buzz event marked the start of a year of fundraising at the company with lots more events planned.

Brave eight-year-old takes on Big Buzz in brother's memory

Charlotte, eight, from Ashford in Kent decided to raise money for CLIC Sargent in memory of her brother who had been supported by the charity.

Charlotte’s mum said: “I am extremely proud of Charlotte. I was bursting with pride when she asked if she could grow her hair so that she could then cut it off so a little girl could have it and feel pretty whilst going through treatment.”

Izzy braves the scissors and raises £600 after saying good bye to 13 inches of hair

Izzy said: “The haircut went really well, I got a really good reaction from all my friends and teachers.

"My tutor made the class all clap when I walked into registration which was cool.

“It was all worth it as I’ve raised nearly £600 for CLIC Sargent. I was keen to support the charity because of the help they are giving to my three-year-old cousin Ted, who is being treated for a bilateral Wilms’ tumour.”

Dad supports son with matching haircuts

Thom Bolton took on the Big Buzz challenge, raising a fantastic £1,725 after his son Zeke was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Thom said: "I immediately thought it would be nice to try to raise some money for them as I wanted to give something back knowing that CLIC Sargent would be helping us.

“Zeke and I shaved our heads together in the hospital. I went first; to show Zeke that it would be alright and afterwards he was pleased with our matching ‘special haircuts’.”

Shave, paint, repeat

The local community really got behind the initiative, with people donating £5 to choose a new design for Lea's head.
Face painter Zoe said: “Lea and I wanted to raise money by doing something crazy, with a fun element, to grab people’s attention, and it certainly did!

Off-shore shave raises over £4,000

Rather than shave his head in a salon or office Mike Dawson from South Yorkshire chose to lop his locks in a much more unusual location.

Mike's nephew Henry is currently undergoing treatment for a rare form of leukaemia, so Mike and his oil-rig colleagues decided to hold a Big Buzz at their off-shore workplace, raising well over £4,000  in one of the more unusual venues for a Big Buzz!
