CLIC Sargent was one of six UK charities that took part in ITV’s Text Santa fundraising appeal in 2013. This partnership will now help us support children and young people with cancer and their families.

Text Santa show a great success

ITV thanked the millions of viewers for tuning into the Text Santa extravaganza show on Friday 20 December 2013 and was delighted to announce that it raised £4.9m.

This means that CLIC Sargent received £820,000 from the appeal to continue supporting children and young people with cancer and their families.

The star studded show was packed with lots of surprises, music performers and featured true life films from each of the six charities.

Lorraine Clifton, Chief Executive of CLIC Sargent said: "I want to say a heartfelt thank you to ITV and all the people who have taken part and given so generously to Text Santa to raise this fantastic amount. It will make a real difference in communities throughout the UK, enabling us to provide vital practical and emotional support to help children and young people, and their families, cope with the devastating impact of cancer and its treatment."

About Text Santa 2013

The charity joined Age UK, Barnardo’s, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation and Help the Hospices as the charities to benefit from ITV’s flagship Christmas appeal.

Launched on 5 December, Text Santa was an entertainment extravaganza that aired on prime-time TV on Friday 20 December, with a range of fundraising activities and awareness raising activity in the run-up to the show.

How the appeal will make a difference to CLIC Sargent

Over the past two years, ITV Text Santa has raised over £10 million for its chosen charities. For the 2013 campaign, ITV asked people to help add to this amazing amount by donating via text, getting involved in fundraising activities or buying Text Santa merchandise on sale through various high street partners.

The amount raised was shared equally between the chosen six charities. Every penny raised for CLIC Sargent will now help us fund our core work, providing practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer and their families.

Not stopping there, it will also enable us to create, develop and manage our first ever online community to support young people with cancer for a period of three years. The online community will enable young people to connect and share experiences with other people who are going through similar experiences.

The online community is part of our wider plans to improve support for young people with cancer, and Text Santa will help us bring forward this work to help isolated young cancer survivors to feel less alone, seek support from others and simply chat about their experience through a social media platform that they are familiar with.
