If treatment fails

This section has been written using the real experiences of bereaved parents to support parents and carers when treatment fails.

There may come a time when you are told that your child isn’t going to get better and that they are going to die. This is one of the hardest things you will ever have to deal with and it is impossible to say how you will react.

You will experience powerful emotions with this painful and devastating news and you may have lots of questions. It is important to know that there is no right or wrong way to respond as you adjust to this news, only your way.

You also need to know that you don’t need to cope with this alone. If you need support, or if you just need to talk, ask your CLIC Sargent Social Worker, speak to someone in the team caring for your child or contact a specialist organisation.

If you would like to contact CLIC Sargent, please call 0300 330 0803 or email: info@clicsargent.org.uk.
