How we helped Jack and Joseph
Today ten families will hear that their child has cancer.
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to helping them. We provide clinical, practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer, and their families.
CLIC Sargent Play Specialists and our Homes from Home are just two of the ways we provide vital help at one of the most difficult times families may ever face.

CLIC Sargent Play Specialists
Jack was diagnosed with cancer when he was two. As part of his treatment he had to receive radiotherapy. This meant that Jack had to lie still – and alone – whilst the large radiotherapy machine gave him his treatment.
Jack’s CLIC Sargent Play Specialist understood how frightening this would be for a young child and used a variety of activities to help Jack overcome his fear.
Thanks to this, he could calmly receive treatment whilst listening to his mum’s reassuring voice over a walkie talkie.
Homes from Home
CLIC Sargent provides free accommodation near hospitals so families like Joseph's can stay together.
Joseph was diagnosed with cancer when he was just six months old. Naturally his parents, Celine and Steve, wanted to be with their son at this critical time. However, there was only space on the ward for one of them.
So that Celine and Steve could both stay close to Joseph, CLIC Sargent offered free accommodation in a Home from Home just a short walk from Southampton Hospital.
