Your child’s cancer treatment may need to take place a long way from where you live, and you could find yourself making long journeys and paying for overnight stays.
CLIC Sargent has 10 Homes from Home, located near eight principal treatment centres, where families can stay for free during their child’s cancer treatment.
Our Homes from Home
A Home from Home is a place where you and your family can stay for free, so that you can be close to your child during their treatment. CLIC Sargent has 10 Homes from Home around the UK. These are located within a 10-minute walk of the principal treatment centres in Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Nottingham, Oxford, Belfast and Southampton.
Staying at a Home from Home
Homes from Home are welcoming, non-clinical places to stay, with as many home comforts as possible. Each family has their own room and access to a shared lounge area and kitchen where you can cook your own meals. In a Home from Home, you can also wash and iron clothes, watch TV, play games or catch up with other residents who are going through similar experiences.
Staying in a Home from Home allows the whole family to be together while your child is undergoing cancer treatment. Your child can stay with you too if they are well enough and the ward staff agree. Families often tell us how much they appreciate being able to sit down and enjoy a family meal together.
Organising your stay at a Home from Home
You and your family are welcome to stay at one of our Homes from Home for as long, or as little, as you need. To organise your stay, just speak to a member of your ward staff or a CLIC Sargent Social Worker. They will be able to liaise with the house managers and check availability for you.
