Holidays can be special times for families, allowing you to take a break from your day-to-day home life and spend time together. This can be especially important for a family affected by childhood cancer.
Every year, CLIC Sargent helps hundreds of families to take a holiday or specialist short break, free of charge, at Malcolm Sargent House in Ayrshire or in one of our self-catering caravans.
Malcolm Sargent House
Malcolm Sargent House, located on Ayrshire’s stunning coast, offers holidays for families during and after treatment, as well as short breaks during the weekends or low season. The staff at Malcolm Sargent House understand the impact that cancer can have on your family and will be able to tailor your holiday to you and your child’s individual needs.
With your accommodation and all meals provided free of charge, you can use the holiday to relax, to visit local attractions, or to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities suitable for all ages. These activities are tailored to the physical abilities of those taking part, and may include cycling, arts and crafts, and team games. Medical support is nearby should you need it, and you will find that the other people staying there will be in a similar situation to you, making it easy to engage with families who may be going through similar experiences as you and your family.
Specialist short breaks
CLIC Sargent also offers specialist short breaks at Malcolm Sargent House during weekends and low seasons. The short breaks can take many forms, including bereavement breaks, mothers’ or fathers’ groups, or breaks for grandparents or young people.
Families have told us that they find these breaks helpful, as they are an opportunity to receive support both from the CLIC Sargent team and others in a similar situation.
