Donna's story

One of our amazing volunteers, Donna, talks about her role as a CLIC Sargent Representative, an important role that helps us to raise both awareness and funds for children and young people with cancer in local communities across the UK.

Donna's story

“I became a CLIC Sargent Representative after my great niece Freya, who was only 17 months old, was diagnosed with leukaemia, and I saw the impact such a diagnosis has on a family. CLIC Sargent provided so much support at a devastating time in their lives.

“I wanted to do something to help, but as they lived in Cornwall and I live in Wales, I found it frustrating that there wasn't anything I could do, until I came across a CLIC Sargent collection tin in a restaurant - this prompted me to phone CLIC Sargent and I offered to help as a collector.

Volunteering is my way of giving back for everything that CLIC Sargent has done and continues to do for my great-niece.

“I have met new people and have paid in almost £1,000 from tins I have collected in the last 15 months - and that’s not counting the money I raised by doing Cardiff Half Marathon!

"It’s so great to now feel I am doing my little bit to help other families when they need it most.”
