BT Sport is providing a grant through The Supporters Club, a charitable initiative, which supports projects in the UK and overseas using sport to improve lives.
About the partnership
BT Sport customers can make monthly donations which go towards funding grants for a range of projects.
BT Sport, through The Supporters Club, is providing two years of funding to CLIC Sargent totalling £100,000.
This support will fund:
- A CLIC Sargent Young People’s Community Worker to support 16-24 year olds with cancer.
CLIC Sargent Young People’s Community Workers are able to give flexible practical and emotional support to young people with cancer, in their own community.
- A sports-specific grant pot for young people (aged 16-24 years) on treatment or within six months of completing treatment.
Thanks to this new grant, young people with cancer supported by CLIC Sargent will be able to access a range of activities to improve their wellbeing.
For example, they could use it for indoor or outdoor sports equipment, sports clothing, or membership of a sports club such as tennis or badminton, zumba or fitness classes.
The Supporters United film
BT Sport recently aired a 24-minute documentary about The Supporters Club’s funding of some of CLIC Sargent’s services for young people on BT Sport One.
The documentary features interviews with several young people who have been supported by CLIC Sargent, as well as staff from the charity and former Celtic footballer Alan Stubbs, who has had cancer twice.
