Home > Get involved > Everyday ways to help >Do you own shares that are not worth keeping? Established in 1996, the charity ShareGift (registered in England, number 1052686) specialises in accepting smaller numbers of shares of low value, which are not worth selling on their own.
When you donate your shares to ShareGift, they re-register them and collect them into holdings that are large enough to sell. They then give the proceeds to a range of UK registered charities, including CLIC Sargent. So far CLIC Sargent has received over £30,000 from ShareGift. This is an amazing amount and we are incredibly grateful for their support.
David McIntosh has worked for ShareGift since 2005, having previously worked in the stock broking industry. He told us this:

If you are a UK taxpayer you can claim income tax relief on the value of shares donated to charity. In addition, donating shares to charity gives rise to neither a gain nor a loss for Capital Gains Tax purposes.
When people donate their shares to ShareGift, they are welcome to suggest a charity or cause that they support. ShareGift uses this information when choosing charities to support. Mentioning that you support CLIC Sargent may help us to receive donations from ShareGift in the future.
