message: Does anyone know anything about this day course (if you call it that) about finishing the end of treatment. Apparently it's a help guide to prepare you in the best way possilbe for end of treatment, what to expect, trying to get back to normal life, etc.. My son is due to finish his maintenance on 28th September 2009. Although were happy about this, it's also a very scary thought.
A mum i met at The Marsden, Sutton, said she heard about it. Apparently it's run by Clic Sargent. Any Ideas!

message: Hi
I've found this out for you:
The Marsden run a day course for families of children and young people nearing the end of treatment. It runs once or twice a year and requires take up from several families in order to go ahead. No date has been set for the next course, so if you’re interested you should let your CLIC Sargent Social Worker know or call the CS care team at the RMH on 020 8661 3880. They will be able to let you have more information about the course and put your name on the list to attend.
I hope that helps. Good luck!

message: Not heard of this but could so have done with this when our son finished treatment last October - think if we'd had a day course to explore how we'd feel once all the support networks and regular appointments left our lives, think this period would have been more bearable. If I'm being truthful, my husband and I found post-treatment (esp. the first 6 months) really, really tough. We had no idea who to call or what to do if our son's temp started to creep up, and felt abandoned by the community nurse who'd been part of our lives and then was no longer 'needed'!
Please, please if this course is available and you know about it, make sure as many parents know about it as possible.
