Home > About childhood cancer > For young people >As if it wasn’t hard enough being a teenager, a cancer diagnosis makes life even more difficult for teens and young adults. With 20 years' experience of supporting young people with cancer, we are the providers of social care for young people in the UK today. We have talked to many young people between the ages of 13 - 24 and have identified a range of services and activities especially for your age group. Your CLIC Sargent care professional can help you to find groups of people your own age who can relate to your concerns and feelings because they have had similar experiences to you.
There's more information about what we do in the video below.

Services and activities:
One-to-one counselling and advice
If you want to talk to someone outside your family your CLIC Sargent care professional will be happy to listen or where possible, they can arrange for you to see a specialist adolescent social worker or youth worker.
Group work/Youth club
Meeting up with other people in your own age group can provide you with a great deal of support and advice.
Activities
Sometimes getting away from the day-to-day routine can be very helpful to you. We can help to arrange for you to take part in activities such as artwork classes, abseiling or drama groups. If you are interested in learning more, speak with your CLIC Sargent care professional.
Educational and work issues
CLIC Sargent care professionals have listened to the concerns of young people with cancer and realise that some of the main concerns are about missing school and the development of career opportunities. We can help you to find out about services and opportunities that address these issues - just ask and we will try and get the advice and guidance you need.
Help with benefits and social rights
If you are 16 years old or over and still in full time education, you may be entitled to claim benefits in your own right. Claiming benefits, particularly for the first time, can be a lengthy and frustrating process. Your CLIC Sargent care professional can help you understand your entitlements and how to make a claim, and can help you access specialist advice. There is more information about this in our benefits and grants section.
Holidays and weekends away
For many years we have been talking and working with young people with cancer in your age group and we have identified some places and activities that we think you will enjoy. Young people who have taken part in the activities arranged by CLIC Sargent have told us that they really enjoyed meeting other people of their own age with cancer and the experience helped them to rebuild their confidence and self esteem. When the time is right, you can discuss this with your CLIC Sargent care professional. You will find information about holidays in
