The Research and Development team is pleased to release the ‘CLIC Sargent Work-Care Balance Survey’ report in support of the Parents have a Right to Care campaign.
Based on phone interviews with over 50 families affected by childhood cancer, the survey found that parents use a variety of coping strategies in order to balance work and care. However, key flexible working legislation from April 2003 does not seem to have had the intended effect of supporting parents after their child’s diagnosis.

In support of the Fit to Eat Campaign, a consultation with hospital-based CLIC Sargent staff was conducted in July 2007. The consultation revealed serious concerns about the quality of hospital food provided to children and young people with cancer. Staff want to see fresh, healthy, appealing food, served when required, for those undergoing demanding treatment. This is not always available.
