Tom’s diagnosis came out of the blue.
In one moment he went from being a little boy with an ear infection to having life threatening leukaemia. He wasn’t even two and began his chemotherapy immediately. It was given through a tube (called a Hickman Line) which was put into his chest. He was too small to understand what was going on – all his Mum could do was hold his hand and tell him how brave he was.
top of pageHow did CLIC Sargent help?
CLIC Sargent arranged for the family to stay at CLIC House - a Home from Home, practically on the door step of the hospital in Bristol.
The family had their own comfortable room and used the kitchen to cook their own meals. There were other families going through similar experiences, so there were plenty of cups of tea, hugs and, even tears at times.
CLIC Sargent currently has eight Homes from Home around the UK. As nearly 2,000 people stayed in a Home from Home in 2008, you can see how essential they are.
Please help more families stay together
To give a family a room at a Home from Home, costs CLIC Sargent £30 a day. A donation of whatever you can afford will mean the world to families who want to stay together during a difficult and stressful time.
top of pageThe good news is that Tom is doing well. But like any parent whose child has cancer, Sharon worries about what will happen in the future. Whatever happens, thanks to your generosity, CLIC Sargent will always be there for Tom and his family.
